It’s been a fun couple of days watching Wayne and his 12 year old reeling in spoonbill paddlefish on Fort Gibson Lake in Oklahoma. Today, we put the top up and fished in the rain while staying dry. The current really had them stacked this morning on Fort Gibson! The Texans already planned to make it a yearly event.
Today, I had first time guests, Larry and Iris Beckett, for a blue catfish trip on Grand Lake in Oklahoma. We started out fishing for blue catfish on the edge of a drop off into the main river channel. We caught a good amount of nice eating sized blue catfish up to 10 pounds here. After a couple of hours on anchor the bite slowed way down. We pulled anchor and graphed around. The blue catfish had left the area. We went to several other locations trying to nail down a new pattern as the sun broke through the clouds and the wind picked up. Time to head shallow!!!! After sneaking our way onto a shallow flat close to the river channel we eased the anchors in the water, got baited up, and FISH ON!!! We completed the limits and got into some nice picture fish as well. What a great day at the office with wonderful new customers! We even got a bonus Paddlefish Spoonbill.
It was a very calm sunny day today on Fort Gibson Lake in Oklahoma fishing for Paddlefish (Spoonbill). It only took a couple of minutes until we heard the clicker screaming on the Penn’s and FISH ON!!! The fish scattered a little after the first couple spoonies were boated and we went to find another group. Shorty after, they started generating and we got a good current. Always a plus for putting the fish where we want them. We never got the big girls today, but the feisty males were plentiful.
I had first time guests Brad and his buddy this afternoon on Fort Gibson in Oklahoma. We boated two fish within 30 minutes and they wanted to keep them for a fish fry. It all happened so fast I forgot to get pics. The fish were grouped up really thick in a bend of the river channel. Two passes and two fish. Time to get ready for tomorrows trip. I did go look at a couple of other areas after the trip to keep tabs on the fish. There were spoonbill at every spot. Sure is good when they are where they’re supposed to be!
I had Gus and his nephew aboard the ProCat this morning for a blue catfish trip on Grand Lake in Oklahoma. Bait was tough this morning! We had a cold front move in last night and it drove the big bait down really deep. It took a couple of hours to get enough for the day. Got it just in time to pick up Gus. With the cold front it made the air crisp going across beautiful Grand Lake. We anchored up on a ledge on the edge of the river channel. It didn’t take long and we had FISH ON! They boated some good blues for a fish fry and a very nice double digit channel cat. They only had a few hours to fish and we all had a great time!
First timers, Joe and Elmo hit some solid Spoonbill Paddlefish this morning on Fort Gibson Lake in Oklahoma! Elmo got a half-bill that flat wore him out! We were snag trolling 3 pounds of weight. We never got a huge female this trip, but did very well on 30-50 pound males. Great day to be on Fort Gibson Lake with great people. Thanks guys!
Kenny and Sam joined me this morning for their first adventure catching Spoonbill Paddlefish. They both have fishing experience from the Northeast and were looking to try something new since they recently moved to Oklahoma. The fish were grouped up really good this morning and doubling up several times! We even got an albino blue cat.
Fishing for Spoonbill Paddlefish on Fort Gibson Lake
Nice weather and a spoonbill paddlefish smack down weekend on Fort Gibson Lake in Oklahoma! Dale, Steve, and Michael came from Weatherford and they were a blast to have on the boat snagging hard fighting prehistoric spoonbill paddlefish. Saturday, it was the day to hit good numbers of males trolling. On Sunday, we didn’t catch as many spoonbill paddlefish, but it was big female time! Great time with these comedians on the boat making jokes all weekend long. We saw several Bald Eagles that just added to the great weekend of snagging at Fort Gibson Lake in Oklahoma.
