Blue Catfish Oologah Lake

Spring Break plans got changed due to momma getting a tummy bug. The kids asked if we could go catch blue catfish while mommy is getting better. Like I’m going to say no to that! Very nice afternoon on Oologah Lake in Oklahoma catching shallow water blue catfish.

The blue catfish were roaming around the flooded timber in shallow water gorging on gizzard shad. They were running in small groups ganging up on the shad. We’d catch 3 to 6 catfish and then it was time to move. Finding them on side image sonar is the key and then being fairly quiet to not spook them.

We probably could have caught more per stop today, but my kids were so excited that I’m pretty sure they scared some fish away 🙂

If you like catching the next couple of months is prime time for shallow water blue catfish!
